The Pietermaritzburg City Hall was rebuilt in 1901 after a devastating fire. The building is the largest red-brick building in the Southern Hemisphere. It was declared a national monument in 1969.

The Pietermaritzburg City Hall is home to the offices of the mayor of Pietermaritzburg.
