Piazza della Repubblica a Cortona
Tuscany

In the central Piazza della Repubblica on the east side there is the Town Hall dating back to the 14th century with its characteristic tower with the clock today symbols of Cortona. The bell tower was built together with the imposing staircase leading to the building. Also in the square we find the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, (the tallest in the square), a splendid building used as the residence of Cardinal Passerini in the 16th century.
