Es ist eine kleine, neogotische Kapelle, kaum 50 Quadratmeter groß. Sie erzählt von der großen Liebe und tiefen Religiosität ihres Erbauers. Der hieß Heinrich Victor Lantz, entstammte einer wohlhabenden und einflussreichen Kaufmannsfamilie.
Anlass für den Bau der Kapelle war der mit 44 Jahren recht frühe Tod seiner Frau Mathilde. Die Memorialkapelle, die er bauen ließ und unter der sich die Familiengruft befindet, diente nicht nur der Erinnerung an seine Frau. Der Bauherr zeigte auch, dass er "Glauben und Hoffnung hatte, nämlich auf ein Wiedersehen mit seiner Geliebten in der Herrlichkeit Gottes", heißt es in einer Broschüre, die Walter Spiess aufgelegt hat. Spiess hat Ende 2010 mit einigen Gleichgesinnten den Förderverein "Lantz'sche Kapelle" gegründet.
