In the middle of nowhere of the Solheimasandur, a huge area full of black volcanic sand, there is a wreck of a C-47 Skytrain - Dakota U.S. Navy, which had to make an emergency landing due to icing here on November 21, 1973. Luckily no one was killed. The remains of the wreck are still at this point. Especially on foggy gray days the apocalyptic scene reminds to a movie.
