Tween Decks Passengers
Bremerhaven

Tween decks passengers on a sail ship from Bremerhaven to New York, around 1854. The voyage  took many weeks under precarious conditions. Compare this to a 7h flight nowadays.

Wikipedia: "The German Emigration Center (German: Deutsches Auswandererhaus) is a museum located in Bremerhaven, Germany dedicated to the history of German emigration, especially to the United States. Visitors can experience the process of a historical emigration. The museum also provides access to databanks with immigration records.

The museum opened on August 8, 2005.

It forms an enclave in the state of Lower Saxony and is located at the mouth of the River Weser on its eastern bank, opposite the town of Nordenham.
