Akopan (also spelled Acopan) is a giant Tepui (flat-topped plateau with steep drops) that belongs to the massif of Chimanta in Venezuelan state of Bolivar. Composed mainly of sandstone, rises to 2100 meters and has become a major point for climbing in the area. The tepui is a kind of inverted "u" in the middle of which born and descends the Yunek river, which also serves as the way of ascent to the summit without the use of climbing equipment.

The plateau is still quite unspoilt nature and it is the subject of myths and legends of the nearby residents who say "the sky darkens and it starts to rain if a stranger is coming" and may also "fall prey to Amuchima, a giant eagle that usually carried deer, boys and even older people".
