Sanger Peak (5862'/1787m) summit (gigapixel)
California

Gigapixel view from the summit of Sanger Peak (elev. 5,862') in the Preston Peak area of Northern California.  The peak faces many of the high points of the Pacific Coast Range, including Black Butte, Lookout Mountain, Youngs Peak, El Capitan, Broken Rib Mountain, & the tip of Preston Peak.  Decent views extend north to the Illinois Valley in Oregon, Kalmiopsis Wilderness which is mostly bare from the 2002 Biscuit Fire, & the silvery sheen of the Pacific Ocean to the west.  The peak has the foundations of a former fire lookout tower, first constructed in 1926 followed by a replacement tower in 1957.  The old trail to the top can be followed easily as it follows the ridge & goes alongside the rather imposing north face.  The tower has been removed for some time now.
