Niki de Saint Phalle lived from 1930 to 2002. This is an altar that she created. "The altar is a bronze cast of the work Saint Phalle made in 1962. In the 90’s, the artist, willing to venture with new materials, revisits some of her early assemblage sculptures and casts them in bronze. In addition to fixing the art-works into a timeless material, the shining metal gives them an interesting and precious aspect. In the case of this altar, it almost looks like a true holy relic." The sculpture elicited both acclaim and controversy because of its mixture of guns and religion.
