National Palace of Queluz, Music Room
Lisbon

The music room belongs to the first phase of construction and was designed by the architect Mateus Vicente de Oliveira and was completed in 1759, one of the oldest in the Palace. Its structure has remained practically the same until today. Its volume contains a curved wall forming, together with the ceiling, an acoustic shell on the stage of the musicians.

Also known as the Serenade House, it was armed several times as the Opera House using the canopy of ships. Until the inauguration of the New Theater of the Opera of Queluz, in 1778 and after the destruction of this it was the scene of countless musical evenings.

The golden age of music in Queluz ends in 1786, with the death of D. Pedro III, and later with the inauguration in 1793 of Theater of S. Carlos.
