We should have risen earlier and started our hike down the UPS route into South Canyon before the sun became hot and on to the Colorado River, but the temptation to sleep in was too great. As a positive result of sleeping in, I was able to witness and photo a gorgeous sunrise as it spread across the open prairie of the House Rock Valley where it splays its rolling hills of sagebrush towards the precipitous rim on the north side of the Grand Canyon.
