Valdivia (founded as Santa María la Blanca de Valdivia by the conquistador Pedro de Valdivia) is the capital of Rivers Region as well as the Province of Valdivia and commune which has the same name. It is the oldest city in southern Chile, founded in 1552 after Santiago, La Serena and Concepción. It is known as "the key of the South Sea" from the colonial period, due to their network of fortifications that protected it from attacks enemigos.2 Integra along with the towns of Corral, Lancaster, and Mariquina Máfil Precinct No. 53 and belongs to the 16 th Senatorial District.
