Installed on young lava soil, the Mare Longue rain forest is declared Natural reserve because of its high botanical interest. It grows at low altitude, around 300 meters. It is also called colored-wood forest. One can see a lot of endemic species such as Labourdonnaisia callophylloides, Mimusops maxima and a lot of epiphyts.
