Hickman Natural Bridge, Capitol Reef National Park, Torrey, Utah, USA
Utah

The Hickman Natural Bridge rises 125 feet above and spans about the same in length across a dry stream bed within Capitol Reef National Park. Rather than being called an arch, the bridge earns its name by having been cut by a true river in the past.

The bridge's other namesake, Hickman, pays tribute to Joseph Hickman, a grandson of pioneers who with Ephraim Pectol, worked to have the natural wonders of the area set aside in the 1920s as public lands for all to enjoy. Some lands were first set aside as a state park named Wayne Wonderland in 1925. In 1937, the park was given National Monument status and in 1971 the park was made a National Park.
