Russia

Stanitsa Starocherkasskaya (Rostov Region, Lower Don, Russia). Until 1805, this place was called the city of Cherkassk and had the status of the capital of the Don Army.

The first mention of Cherkassk - 1569.

The main fortified city in the south of Russia until the end of the 17th century.

In the 17th century, the city of Cherkassk was a powerful fortress with many fortifications. The city was divided into several villages within itself and was very densely built up.

Repeatedly destroyed and burned. The largest fire occurred in 1744, after which the city did not recover.

In 1805, the capital of the Don Army was transferred from Cherkassk to Novocherkassk. And Cherkassk became known as Starocherkassk. At the end of the 19th century, Cherkassk lost the status of a city and was called the "village of Starocherkasskaya".

In the center of the village are the Holy Don Starocherkassky Monastery and the Starocherkassk Museum-Reserve
