Furka Pass near Gletsch
Switzerland
The Furka Pass, about 70 kilometers long, connects Brig in canton Wallis with Andermatt in canton Uri, Switzerland, its highest stretch is between the cities of Gletsch and Andermatt, in the Alpine region of Obergoms. Here were filmed 1964 movie scenes of James Bond 007 Goldfinger, by this fact, the stretch between Gletsch and Realp, is also called James Bond Str. The Furka Pass is one of Switzerland's most impressive alpine passes at an altitude of 2,431 metres. It offers views of glaciers, rugged mountain peaks, waterways and scenic forest areas. On the Valais side is located the Rhone Glacier, where the Rhone River born. With a spectacular mountain panorama, every year countless visitors are attracted, with traffic being made by bicycle, motorcycle, car or steam train, almost always along the road. The Furka Pass, together with the Oberalp Pass, is extremely important for crossing the East-West Alps, facilitating trade between the inhabitants of Wallis, Uri and Graubunden.
