Aerial drone view on a summer day - above the village of Starocherkasskaya - Lower Don, the vicinity of the cities of Aksai and Rostov-on-Don
Russia

The village of Starocherkasskaya is located 30 km west of Rostov-on-Don. Starocherkassk was founded in 1570, and at that time the city was an important center of the southern part of Russia. At the moment, the village is a small town in Aksaysky district with a population of just under 3 thousand people. The true value of the city in its attractions.

For the first time Starocherkassk as a settlement is mentioned in historical records dating back to 1569. The great historian Tatishchev in his sources indicates that the city originally existed under the name "Cherkassky city", and it was founded by Cossack Cherkasy, who came to this region by an expedition from the Commonwealth and the Principality of Lithuania. The expedition was led by Prince Mikhail Vishnevetsky, a Polish elder.

The general census at the end of the century before last showed that the population of the Starocherkasskaya village was just over 5 thousand people. After 30 years, the population was 4,412 people, of whom 3,689 people identified themselves as Cossacks by origin. This census separately counted the number of residents living at that time in the village and farm of Rykov. The total number of residents was 5155 people. The census of 2010 showed that 2399 people live in Starocherkassk, together with the Rykovsky farm and the village of Krasnodvorsk, the number of inhabitants of the village was 3292 people. In 2013, the number of residents in the village amounted to 3345 people.

Sights of Starocherkassk begin with one of the most important shrines - the Resurrection Military Cathedral. The construction began in 1706. The cathedral was the first stone religious building of the Don. Since its construction, the cathedral has remained the main church of the entire Don Army for a century.

The creation of the cathedral belongs to the hands of an unknown architect. Despite the fact that at that time there was a ban on the construction of stone structures outside St. Petersburg, the emperor took a financial part in the construction (this is evidenced by a commemorative plaque). Around the cathedral is a two-tier gallery. The external restrained appearance of the cathedral contrasts brightly with the interior decoration of the shrine. Particularly noteworthy is the carved gilded iconostasis 23 meters high. It consists of 150 icons of the end of the century before last, made in the same carved technique as the entire iconostasis. In front of the iconostasis, huge metal plates were preserved on the floor - all the monarchs prayed on them at one time.

Massive shackles and chains hang at the entrance to the cathedral, in which the great rebel Stepan Razin was chained before being sent to execution. Near the cathedral there is a two-tier bell tower almost 46 m high. Not far from the bell tower are some captured trophies: parts of the fortress gates, trade scales and a wicket. Church of Peter and Paul. She is Starocherkassk monastery. It was built on the site of a wooden church, the mention of which is contained in the letters of the Don army dated 1692. It was repeatedly exposed to fires, after the last it was rebuilt from stone.

Ataman Compound This architectural ensemble includes the buildings of the Ataman estate of the Ephraim. This genus was one of the richest Cossack families. The estate was built on the model of noble houses. The total area of households is 1000 square meters. m. On the territory of the Ataman estate there is also the Don House Church, on the eastern side of which the Ephraim family clan is located.
