I've looked at a lot of rivers in my life and have never seen river water so clear as in New Caledonia Rivers. Each time I go treking along the New Caledonia Rivers I'm amazed and delighted again to be able to see what must have been the natural state of rivers before humanity muddied and silted them almost everywhere else.
This Memory Bubble was taken on the 5th leg of the GR©NC1, towards the end of the day. After a long walk there is nothing better than to stop for a swim in the clear headwaters of the Riviere Bleue, near the Refuge des Tristaniopsis in the Parc de la Riviere Bleue.
This is the last stop on the GRNC1 trek before starting on the two to three day journey over the mountains to Dumbea River. A park bus (cars are not allowed in this part of the park) makes several trips per day to the Refuge from the entrance to the Park.
