View from Mackeys Peak in Grampians National Park
Grampians National Park

Panorama of Grampians National Park with Halls Gap from Mackeys Peak, Victoria, Australia. In the late 1800s the peak was known as Cherub Peak in memory of child Agnes Folkes, whose grave is at the foot of the peak. Agnes died aged three months in 1870 because her sawmilling parents could not get her to a doctor in Stawell due to flooding. Around 1920 the peak was officially named Mackeys Peak when the Minister for Lands, Mr Mackey, visited the valley. On the western side of Mackeys Peak is a rocky slope called Elephant's Hide, the eastern side is a sharp drop into the valley of Halls Gap.
