A peculiar curiousity partway up the cliff, the Coppock Flag is a painted American flag in the Petroglyph Unit of Lava Beds National Monument near Tulelake, California.  It was painted by 16 year old Charles Coppock on August 15, 1917 who had visions of enlisting and fighting in World War I.  The paint itself has faded but the flag still remains visible on the cliff as well as the date.  The flag is protected & any vandalism or new markings to the cliff is a violation of law.  The Peninsula (Castle Rock) lies directly to the north.
