Aerial panorama of the ghost village of Anavatos. It was built on a 450m high cliff with steep slopes and had only one access from N-E. Its first role was probably the defense against pirates as it was commanding the passage between the West and the East coast of Chios. It was deserted after the terrible slaughters committed by Ottomans in 1822 in this island.
"Anavatos" means in Greec that you have to climb for reaching the village. This is true !
