QUINTA DE SAN PEDRO ALEJANDRINO - ALTAR OF THE COUNTRY
Built in 1930 to honor the memory of Simon Bolivar the completion of the first anniversary of his death, during the administration of Dr. Enrique Olaya Herrera, the Altar of the Fatherland is part of all modern buildings of St. Peter of Alexandria.
The work, Republican style, was designed by architect Gustavo Santos Caballero and directed by Architect Manuel Colombo-Cuban race. The neoclassical sculptures inside, were designed by Augusto Rossi and Helmeregildo artists Luppi, trained in the school of the famous sculptor Pietro Tenerani in Rome.
The Altar of the Fatherland was finally opened in 1942 during the presidency of Dr. Eduardo Santos.
Nestled at the altar is the Plaza de Banderas, built in 1980, honors Simon Bolivar to commemorate the 150th anniversary of his death. There remain hoisted the flags of America, as an expression of the dream of continental unity.
In the center foreground, Victorious Republic of Colombia is represented by the seated sculpture treading the yoke of Spanish tyranny. Behind this figure there is a door that symbolizes Colombia as the gateway to South America. Standing to his left is the Goddess of Liberty, on the right the Goddess of Prosperity, behind it is a lion symbolizing humiliated brute force of oppression that has been overcome. At the top left is the seated figure of the Angel of Progress. At the other end, the seated figure of the Angel of Peace. At the height of the monument is the Liberator Simon Bolivar, Father of the Nation
