National World War II Memorial
Washington, DC

The National World War II Memorial is a striking and solemn tribute to the brave men and women who served and sacrificed during World War II. Located on the eastern end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C., this magnificent monument offers a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of history and remembrance.

As you approach the memorial, you are greeted by a grand central plaza featuring a vast, shimmering pool with fountains. This pool represents the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of the war and serves as a serene reflection of the past. On either side of the plaza are two monumental arches, the Atlantic Arch and the Pacific Arch, adorned with bronze wreaths and inscriptions that pay homage to the significant battles and campaigns of the war.
The central focus of the memorial is a stunning, iconic structure known as the Freedom Wall. This semi-circular colonnade is adorned with 4,048 gold stars, each representing 100 American service members who made the ultimate sacrifice. The stars are a poignant reminder of the immense human cost of the war and create a powerful and emotional backdrop.
