Tychy - Estate "A" - St Anne's Square

This is the central square of the Estate "A" - the first estate of "New Tychy", built in 1951-1956 (see the panorama "Tychy - Estate "A" - sculpture of a heroine of labour"). It reflects principles of the socialist realist urbanism - it was supposed to be a center of the estate, so here were located many shops, service buildings and the community centre with a cinema - this building is the main feature. Moreover, the square was also planned to be a place to rest - so here was also a fountain and some greenery.

Originally the square was called Pstrowski Square (in honor of a socialist hero of labour) and was really the center of the new city. Later it lost its importance due to erecting the Estate "B" and next estates of "New Tychy".
After 1989 the square was renamed to "St Anne's Square" and by the end of the 20th century it became ruined. But recently the square and the surrounding buildings were renovated in the interests of saving the unique architecture of the Estate "A" and making the square an attractive place again.
