临汾广胜寺为我国一著名佛教寺院，位于汾河以东，距临汾市45公里，洪洞县城东北方向三十余华里的霍山南麓，是全国重点文物保护单位。据《平阳府志》记载，广胜寺始建于东汉建和元年（公元147年），初名俱卢舍寺，亦称阿育塔院，又据寺内碑记载，唐大历四年（公元769年），汾阳郡王郭子仪奏请皇帝改名为广胜寺，整修和扩建了寺庙。郭子仪见到佛教“广大于天，名胜于世”，便奏请皇帝改名为广胜寺。元代毁于地震，现存殿堂为元代所建，明代正德、嘉靖年间（公元1515－1527年）在上寺增建琉璃飞虹塔，始成今日规模。这里山青水秀，风景宜人，宝塔高耸，殿阁峥嵘，红墙殷殷，翠柏森森，呈现着一种庄严肃穆的气氛。
