Jasper Forest Overlook, Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona USA
Arizona
The Petrified Forest National Park is located in north, central Arizona high on the Colorado Plateau. This panorama shows the Jasper Forest overlook, an huge area with thousands of exposed petrified logs. The Park is internationally known for its colorful late Triassic Period fossils in the clay of the Chinle Formation. In addition, there are ancient Indian ruins that span over 13, 000 years of history. The National Park is located in the Little Colorado River Valley National Heritage Area in which conservation, interpretation and other activities are managed by partnerships among federal, state, and local governments and the private sector. On clear days you can see over 100 miles in every direction. The Colorado Plateau is a mainly flat area at over 5000 feet above sea level. Winter temperatures at the Park are very cold and Summer temperatures are often over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The rocks you see scattered around in this panorama are all pieces of petrified wood.
