Großer Ahornboden im Karwendel
Österreich

This valley is famous for its large amount of old sycamore maples showing off their spectacular autumn colors during Fall. This seasonal mountain pasture in a region of the Alps known as Karwendel is part of a protected area in the border region between Tyrol and Bavaria.

Several of the trees actually date back to the Thirty Years' War which took place between 1618 and 1648, some of the trees even reach an age of about 600 years. This remote location in Tyrol, Austria can only be accessed via a toll road coming from Bavaria, Germany. A clever idea is to take the comfy bus shuttle (look for "Bergbus Eng") departing from the train station in Lenggries which can be reached from Munich by train in about one hour. There is even a combined ticket available for train plus bus ride at ticket vending machines at Munich central station.
