Amasra geht auf eine Gründung (6.Jh.v.Chr.) durch Siedler aus Milet zurück. Aus der seither wechselvollen Geschichte finden sich noch diverse Überreste. Eigentlich war Amasra einer der schönsten Orte an der türkischen Schwarzmeerküste, doch wird dies durch viele neue Betonbauten am Ortsrand nach und nach kaputt gemacht.
