In 1893, the Qing government constructed a railway between Taipei and Hsinchu, concurrently establishing the Zhongli Train Wharf, marking the origin of Zhongli Station. Throughout history, the station building of Zhongli Station underwent three renovations. After the end of the First Sino-Japanese War in 1895 and the cession of Taiwan to Japan, Zhongli Station was renamed Zhongli Yi on July 5, 1896, and began handling general transportation operations. The station building was a wooden structure built during the Japanese colonial period. The old Zhongli Train Station also witnessed the growth of many people, with numerous stories originating from there. Now, it has been announced that the station will close its doors on June 15, 2024, and a temporary station will be operational from June 16.
