Sugar Pine Butte Ice Cave
California

A view inside Sugar Pine Butte Ice Cave near McCloud, California, most likely formed from an ancient eruption of Mt. Shasta.  The cave is a series of three collapse pits w/ minimal connection however this is the main passage a short 200 feet in length, mostly all stooping and crawling on sandy floors that hardly had any foot traffic.  The walls are golden in appearance due to bacteria hit with water droplets.  There was a few ice stalagmites inside closer to the entrance w/ probably more during the spring season.  These caves have been known as ice caves since before 1935.
