View from the top of "Garnet Hill", a ranked summit in the Egan Range that is a well-known rockhound location outside of Ely, Nevada.  The region has been known for decades for its dark-ruby red garnets that are found in rhyolite matrix.  With a bit of effort, one can search the surface or dig into the hillsides to find the gemstone, often displaying nice crystal faces.
