Lauf an der Pegnitz is the county seat of the central Franconian district of "Nürnberger Land". Worth seeing is the historic old town around the market square; for example, the two city gates and the town hall. Noteworthy are the picturesque side lanes with half-timbered ensembles, mills, tower of the Jews, remains of the former city walls and parts of the former hospital with church ruins from the 14th century.
