Kings Castle (7405'/2257m) summit
California

View from the top of Kings Castle (elev. 7,405') in the Marble Mountains Wilderness west of Fort Jones, California.  The peak forms the northern point of a high ridge that connects to Black Marble Mountain to the south.  While the main white marble escarpment lies to the south, this summit formation also housed small deposits of marble, though most were in the form of being transitioned into a form of quartzite.  The Klamath Mountains has a varying amount of unique geology, the way leading up consists of schist-like rock mixed w/ red peridotite, leading up to the top which is entirely different.  Kings Castle from below looks like a fortress, from up here on can see Preston Peak to the northwest, the Red Buttes to the north, the fog-covered Happy Camp area, the distant Siskiyou Mountains, & Boulder Peak w/ more of the Marble Mountains Wilderness leading down to distant views of the snowy Trinity Alps.  Mt. Shasta also pokes into view near Boulder Peak.  The date, November 8, 2016, I sat on the summit feeling liberated, though keeping below the rocks b/c of the gusty wind.  It was the first clear day in awhile & the day ended nicely w/ Donald Trump winning the US election.
