XII. International climbers meeting in Paklenica, Croatia, may 1st 2011.
Croatia

Paklenica is the common name of two deep canyons (Velika and Mala Paklenica) gouged into the mountain from the sea to beneath Velebit’s highest peaks. It is an area of unusual contact between the sea and the mountain, rich in natural forests of beech, black pine and mountain pine. The park abounds in bizarre karstic forms, caves and other natural features, and the wide range of climatic conditions has benefited the wide diversity of flora and fauna. In 1949, it was proclaimed National Park. Nowadays, National Park Paklenica is one of the most attractive natural, scientific and touristic areas in north-eastern Mediterranean. It is the most visited climbing center in Croatia, also popular outside Croatia. The close proximity of seawater gives this climbing site a special charm, making Paklenica Riviera an ideal place to combine climbing and water sports. During the May 1st long weekend, the traditional 12th international climbers meeting and competition was held in the park.
