Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen is undoubtedly one of the greatest contemporary Portuguese poets, was born in Porto on 6 November 1919, where he spent most of his adolescence, and died in Lisbon on July 2, 2004. He studied Classical Philology at the Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon, in keeping with his fascination with the Greek world, that also took to travel in Greece and throughout the Mediterranean region.
