Eyre Highway
Eyre Peninsula

Named after explorer Edward John Eyre, the 1,675 kilometre long Eyre Hwy aka National Highway 1 links Western Australia and South Australia between Norseman and Port Augusta. Construction of the highway started in 1941 and was completed in 6 months only.

Despite being now sealed the entire distance, the route is still considered a journey that every Australian should complete once in a lifetime because of the road's remoteness and significance. Long straight stretches with hardly any population between Ceduna and Norseman gives the traveller an impression how large the outback of Australia really is.

Short side trips from the highway offer great views of the Great Australian Bight, fishing and whale watching over the winter months.

I have not edited the blurred fly visible above the tree because unfortunately even in remote areas these nasty little buggers are ever present.
