The Heddal Stave Church in the province of Telemark has a length of 20 meters and a height of 26 meters, a masterpiece of medieval architecture (1275 - 1300). In Norway you can find many types of stave churches. But all this stave churches have a structural similarity: The roof is supported by a skeletal framework of free-standing pillars. Long, vertical staves disguise the building.
