Terrace (ruins)
Utah

Terrace Cemetery in the remote Utah landscape

1869 - CA. 1910

Terrace was the largest of the Central Pacific towns built in Utah.  It was established April 1, 1869 as the maintenance and repair headquarters for the entire Salt Lake Division, which stretched from Ogden, Utah to Wells, Nevada.  Facilities included a 16 stall roundhouse and an 8 track switchyard.  Population figures for the town vary from a couple hundred to several thousand, depending upon whom was counted.  The Chinese were generally excluded from the census, and some tallies counted registered voters only.  Extensive evidence of the town remains, including the turntable depression, remnants of roundhouse stalls, and the cemetery to the east.
