QUINTA DE SAN PEDRO ALEJANDRINO - MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART BOLIVARIANO

Born of an initiative by Colombian artist Armando Villegas with the approval of the regional authorities and the President Belisario Betancur then, Bolivarian Museum of Contemporary Art opens its doors on July 24, 1986 within the San Pedro Alexandrian , with the intention of realizing through art, the dream of integration of the Bolivarian countries (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama and Venezuela) as a tribute to the Nations Liberator, Simon Bolivar.

With a sample of over 200 works, Museum since its founding has been consolidating a collection of contemporary art rather heterogeneous, which partially sets the cultural map of Latin America since the first half of the twentieth century to today. The permanent collection includes works by prominent artists of the Bolivarian countries and other countries in Latin America with an important collection of painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, assemblage, watercolor, collage, installation, photography and video art.

In parallel to the permanent collection rooms recreated in Alejandro Obregón, Enrique Grau Armando Villegas, Bolivarian Museum has booked their rooms Hernando del Villar and Open Space Gallery to spread the production of current artists of the region, the country and Latin America.

In its international events calendar highlights Watercolor Triennial, an event that has been making the Bolivarian Museum for some years and has had the participation of works from all over the world.

In recent years, taking advantage of the environmental and cultural vocation Fifth St. Peter of Alexandria and Botanical Gardens, the Museum has begun to push the project staging Situ of environmental issues within their exhibition schedule.

Just as has been promoting the strengthening of the culture of the region, conducting cultural events such as poetry readings, dance and theatrical performances in the Theater Joaquin de Mier y Benitez, also located in the grounds of the Quinta.

Following further the pedagogical task training and public, the museum has its Department of Education, where he designed and developed activities like visits (tours and specialized), workshops, seminars and courses for children, youth and the general public .
