Piazza Umberto I, Palazzo Adriano, Sicily, Italy
Palerme - Sicily

From the Roman Catholic church of Santa Maria Del Lume (18th century) you can see the central square of the village. In 1988, director Giuseppe Tornatore shot large parts of the film "Cinema Paradiso"here. After winning the Jury's Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1989, he was awarded an Oscar for the best foreign-language film the following year. The Municipal Hall (Municipio) houses a small museum dedicated to this film. Opposite the Greek Orthodox Church of Santa Maria Assunta (16th century). A plaque at her side commemorates August 1482, when Albanians who had fled from their homeland from the Ottomans settled here.
