Sculpted in the rock of the hill Temenite; its history and its transformations are identified with the history of Syracuse. Its current form is due to King Hiero II, according to the principles of the scenographic architecture of the Hellenistic world, which makes Siracusa one of the most important and famous capitals of that period. The theater has ancient origins; by written sources we know that it existed in the fifth century BC. and it is in this theater where Esquilo represented the "Etneas" in the year 476 a.C.
