AWD Dome / Stadthalle
Bremen
The AWD-Dome is the largest indoor arena in Bremen, Germany. It is used for concerts, sports, and trade fairs. It used to be called Stadthalle Bremen until the financial services provider Allgemeiner Wirtschaftsdienst (AWD) bought the naming rights in January 2005. In fact it is not a dome. The name dome was probably chosen because an AWD-Arena already exists in Hanover. At the same time 50 Million € were invested into the venue to modernize and expand it from 3,500 to 14,000 seats. The architect Thomas Klumpp led these renovations. The Stadthalle Bremen was designed and built by the Austrian architect Roland Rainer in the years 1961 to 1964.

More About Bremen

The 1,200 year old “Free Hanseatic City of Bremen” and its North Sea port sister of Bremerhaven make up a two-city state, which is the smallest of Germany’s sixteen states. The cities are separated by a mere 60 kilometers along the river Weser. Bremen is a center of technology, renowned for its leadership in aircraft construction and space station assembly as well as space propulsion systems. The city-state earned the distinction of being named the “City of Science” in 2005 as demonstrated by the science center “Universum Bremen” and the “EADS Astrium”.
