Cross at Astrid chapel in Küssnacht Am Rigi, Switzerland
Switzerland

Astrid of Sweden (Astrid Sofia Lovisa Thyra of Sweden; 17 November 1905 – 29 August 1935) was Queen of the Belgians as the wife of King Leopold III. Tragically, at age 29, Queen Astrid was killed in a car accident in the mountains, at Küssnacht am Rigi, near Lake Lucerne, Schwyz, Switzerland, on 29 August 1935. The cross in this picture shows the location where she died. The picture was taken on 29 August 2010, shortly after King Albert II of Belgium visited the site and put down flowers to commemerate the accident.

Across the lake you can see the town of Küssnacht Am Rigi on the left and the mountain of Rigi straight ahead.
