Braganca, Museum of Art

Also known as Solar dos Veiga Cabral and Solar dos Sá Vargas, it is an eighteenth century construction, with markedly horizontal lines. In 1764, the nobleman Francisco António da Veiga Cabral was its owner, ascendant of Bishop D. António da Veiga Cabral da Câmara. By the middle of the century. XIX, belonged to the Councilor and Minister of State Sá Vargas.

The facade and interior have undergone profound changes. In 1947, after remodeling, the Banco de Portugal branch was installed here.

The building was acquired (2001) by the City Council. ”

After restoration and enlargement works were completed, with a project by the Architect Souto Moura, it opens on June 30, 2008. It consists of a permanent exhibition center, distributed over seven rooms, dedicated to the painter Graça Morais and the temporary exhibition center that hosts national and international reference exhibitions.
