The ruins of Brochel Castle, Raasay
Scotland

The extensively ruined Brochel Castle was a three-story tower house, with a courtyard and curtain walls, built in the 1510s by the Clan MacLeod. The castle was built upon a high volcanic plug of rock giving it a commanding view over the surrounding coastline. It remained occupied for around 150 years before falling into disrepair.

The Isle of Raasay, one of the smaller Inner Hebridean Islands, is sandwiched between the Isle of Skye and mainland Scotland. It has a population of around 160 residents.
