Shiding is a funky town. The houses are built right on the river. The main plaza is actually a bridge over the river. It is picturesque to say the least. It is easily accessible from Taipei by bus from near the MRT Brown Line Muzha Station. There are a number of hiking opportunities in the area. The easiest of the hiking trails is the one that starts right in town and follows the river. The river trail combined with a little sight seeing in the town makes for a great day.
