Black Mountain (8038'/2450m) summit (gigapixel)
California

Gigapixel view from the summit of Black Mountain (elev. 8,038') in the Trinity Alps Wilderness near Coffee Creek, California.  The mountain is just to the north of the Red Trinities (peridotite) & east of the White Trinities (granite), their appearance easily noticeable on the landscape.  This is probably one of the best summit views of the region w/ a dramatic landscape & geology yet it remains seldom climbed, the last person to summit was back in October 2017 w/ a half-filled notebook placed August 2001.  In the distance one can see volcanoes Mt. Shasta & Lassen Peak.  Nearby views of Gibson Peak, Siligo Peak, Thompson Peak, Caesar Peak, Mount Hilton, Sawtooth Mountain, Sawtooth Ridge, & Caribou Mountain in the core of the Trinities, resembling a miniature Sierra Nevada.  The summit itself is not too far from the trail, however the ridgeline bushwhack can be an inconvenience.  Ward Lake is visible through the trees sitting in the basin to the south.

During the summer of 2021, lightning strikes ignited forest fires that emerged to become the River Complex, burning 199,343 acres before being fully contained on October 25, 2021.  Much of the forest seen in view in the wide valley going north got burned.
